5 Fall Activities You Can Enjoy in Connecticut

connecticut in the fall

Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Connecticut. As the warm weather disappears and leaves begin to change, you probably find yourself wondering what you can do to enjoy the weather besides sitting inside and reminiscing about all the great camping trips you took this summer. Thankfully, in Connecticut we have a ton of wonderful activities that will keep you outside, active, and happy through the fall season. After all, we want to spend as much time outside as possible, before the snow hits!

Pumpkin Patch

Visit a local pumpkin patch with your spouse or the kids. Many even offer hayrides that make for a romantic evening out. Pack some cider or wine (if permitted) and enjoy taking in the fresh air. Pick some pumpkins to carve for Halloween and be sure to save the seeds. 1 cup of pumpkin seeds includes 14 grams of protein! You can toss them in olive oil to roast or a little bit of butter and brown sugar for a sweet treat.

Make Your Own Cider

Head to your local apple orchard and pick your own apples. Many of these orchards sell their own apple products. instead of buying their cider, head home with your apples and try making your own cider. 1 gallon of cider typically calls for around 5 pounds of apples. You can make a batch for the kids and another “hard” batch for the adults in the family. If you start now you can probably have some to share at your Halloween party or other fall events.

Hit the Beach

As the humidity of summer makes its way out and the crisp air of fall moves in, September and October are the perfect time to head to the beach. The water is still fairly warm, there are less crowds, and you can get your pick of the perfect spot to lay out, read a book, and splash around.

Visit a Fair or Festival

Whether you enjoy comedy, fried fair food treats, art, or music Connecticut promises to have a fair that you’ll enjoy. Each one has something unique to offer. Step out of your comfort zone and attend one that is a little different than what you’re used to or head to a fair that caters to you. Whatever you do you will love the experience you have.

Fall Foliage Hike

Pack you homemade cider and pumpkin seeds and head out for a fall foliage hike. Bring your camera, as you’ll want to capture and share all of the incredible sites you get to see. Don’t bother trying to visit during “peak” times as the trees here in Connecticut are gorgeous at all times!
